The Heart of NYC - Chinatown
New York City owes its fame to its diverse population and various things to do. It is not called the melting pot for nothing. A cornucopia of different cultures, it was a celebratory blast of hope for new immigrants moving from abroad for a taste of the robust American life.
One of the most famous sectors of New York City life is the part of the lower east side known as Chinatown. The streets are bustling with vendors selling inexpensive fruit, clothing items, various knick knacks, and advertising. The traditional Chinese instrument, the er hu, is a common soundtrack to set a traveler’s journey through the iconic sidewalks.
But what makes Chinatown so recognizable? Take away the people, and one can still understand based on the buildings, and more importantly, the building signs, what makes Chinatown look like Chinatown. The glossy finish, bold lettering and usage of the color red. Words such as “deluxe”, “magic”, or “new” above the brightly lit interiors of the packed to the brim shops. Take a look.
