Demystifying Tourism and Exploring the Power of Photo Narratives
Tourism, while it has its positive characteristics like any other product of nature, has recently assumed a more negative connotation. We associate it with ignorant travelers who often end up taking priority over native residents. We associate it with big city buses and the sun hat, binoculars, and obnoxious cameras (although I suppose that could fit the description of a journalist as well). It is also associated with spiking prices and an over romanticization of the destination in question.
This photo series is meant to demystify the shroud of romanticization by employing a photo narrative that illustrates Porto, Portugal as an abandoned city. It is also meant to show the viewer how powerful a camera lens is, allowing a whole different world to take place by manipulating the lighting, a few angles, and capturing subjects with specific criteria.
